VMWare Arbitration Service fails to start (Error 31)

Add a comment Dezember 12th, 2009

I found out why my VMWare Player did not supply a connection to USB devices attached: I had the Sony Ericsson phone update software installed, which in turn installed a broken USB driver.

First, uninstall the Sony Ericsson seehcri driver. Then, right click the devices called “USB Root Hub”, go to “Properties”, “Driver” and click on “Rollback Driver”. The driver should change from Sony Ericsson to Microsoft. Repeat for every hub.

After this, the VMWare USB Arbitration Service should be able to start again.
