Flugphase

Nachdem rundherum um Star Trek alles ausgelutscht ist (und Star Trek 11 ein kruder Versuch ist, das Konzept durch eine geänderte Zeitlinie wiederzubeleben), muss ich feststellen, dass SciFi-Serien meiner Meinung nach doch noch funktionieren, wenn auch nicht zur Trash-Prime-Time, wo uns so Schrott wie “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” oder “Germanys Next Topmodell” präsentiert wird.

Battlestar Galactica war, wenn man die Episoden am Stück am Wochenende geschaut hat total unterhaltsam. Stargate hat sich von einer low budget Serie zu einem eigenen Universum gemausert. Eureka ist witzig, abgehoben und spielt in einer geheimen Stadt in unserer Zeit. “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” hatte mehr mit einer Soap als mit SciFi zu tun und ist daran gescheitert (Beverly Hills 90210 für Nerds funktioniert einfach nicht). Doctor Who ist von einer Schaumstoff-Kostüm-Serie auch zu einem durchaus ernstzunehmenden Universum gewachsen. Torchwood… naja, ich finde, ein wenig zu “schwul”. Aber durchaus schauenswert.

Wer also behauptet, “der SciFi” ist tot, der bedauert aus meiner Sicht die Überkommerzialiserung Star Treks (und den Versuch, zuviele “politisch Korrekte” Themen unterzubringen) oder den grandiosen Unsinn den George Lucas auf die Leinwand brachte…

Filmtipp nebenbei: “Impostor – Der Replikant”.

Ich habe gerade The Happening geschaut, und musste überrascht feststellen, dass die Kritiken überwiegend schlecht waren. Also ich fühlte mich durchaus gut unterhalten, gerade, als ich dachte “was würde ich machen, wenn sich links und rechts von mir alle möglichen Leute umbringen?”.

Und so abwegig ist der Plot (“Pflanzen kommunizieren“) nicht. Aber dafür müsste man als Filmkritiker ein wenig Allgemeinwissen haben und das nicht unter “Ökogutmenschentum” verbuchen.

Neulich, auf dem Gang.

Vorstand: “Herr Fritsche. Mein Unternehmen hat ein Problem. Wir geben zu viel aus, und nehmen zu wenig ein. An den Ausgaben kann ich nichts machen, wir brauchen einen neuen Springbrunnen für das Vorstandsbüro, dringend! Auch kann ich die Management-Prämien nicht kürzen, wo kämen wir da hin, wenn das sich herumspricht? Die Einnahmen können wir auch nicht ändern, wir haben gerade für unsere zahlungsunwilligsten Kunden, als Ansporn, die Preise gesenkt!”
Fritsche: “Aber natürlich, Herr Vorstand! Da ich ihr Haus schon ein wenig länger kenne, ist mir aufgefallen, dass verschwenderisch mit Büroklammern umgangen wird. Hier könnten wir sparen, wenn wir einfach weniger Büroklammern verteilen. Wenn wir Glück haben, kann man mit den Papieren auch lose umgehen”.

Klingt unrealistisch? Irgendwie schon. Der Vorstand würde geschasst werden, und Herr Fritsche hätte vermutlich auf lange Zeit sein letztes Beratungsmandat gehabt.

Sowas funktioniert nur in der Politik…

Ah sweet! OpenVPN up and running again. The installation direktly on the router (dd-wrt) failed to work reliably. I set up the OpenVPN server on my linux home server (two servers, one on port 443 for http tunneling and one on 1194 for udp connections).

The servers have ip adresses 10.8.0.1 and 10.9.0.1. I adjusted the routing table on my router to route 10.0.0.0 via the linux server. The setup is pretty straightforward and well documented (german).

I installed openvpn gui on the windows client and made to configurations – one for the udp server, one for the http tunneled one. Changed stuff in the tunnel-config:

http-proxy 192.168.10.102 8080 creds.txt basic
proto tcp

The user and login password are in creds.txt.

Todo: getting the client to run on my android phones.

It took me a while, but I finally found out, why my vdr wasn’t recording some channels. At first, I thought I had USB timing issues. Or buffers too small. Or a kernel that’s not a good fit for my Eee 701. Turned out I was looking in the complete wrong spot to solve my problem.

I created the famous “channels.conf” using the scan program from the ubuntu dvb-apps package (scan -o vdr). The program outputs the frequencies in kHz, where vdr expects Hz.

For instance:

where VDR needs:

VDR is still able to tune in and stream via network (streamdev), so you can’t find the cause easily. It restarts constantly when trying to record though, creating 0 byte files.

Solution: login via SVDRP (“netcat localhost 2001″) and type “LSTC”. VDR outputs your actual channel information. Copy the output into an editor of your choice and delete the wrong lines, save it as “channels.conf” in your vdr configuration directory.

Tadaa… recording should work now.

Nach zwei Tagen und mehreren Anläufen habe ich es endlich geschafft, einen Kernel für das Samsung Galaxy zu backen. Dies ist der erste Schritt auf dem Weg zum eigenen ROM für mein Telefon.

Für die Installation werde ich vermutlich erstmal auf drakaz’ recovery image zurückgreifen. Folgende Modifikationen zum Stock-Image plane ich derzeit:
- Unterstützung für WiFi Tether
- OpenVPN support
- Evtl. Entfernung der SMS-App (falls möglich) – im Markt gibts besseres
- Evtl. Entfernung der google mail app (auch da gibt’s z. B. k9)
- Integration des “Better Browser”
- No-3D-Kernel für mehr Speicher als Option

Also in ungefähr das, was drakaz als Galaxo herausgebracht hat – nur schlanker

In der IK4-Firmware sind, soweit ich sehen kann, die nutzlosen Samsung Sync-Programme schon weg. Sehr gut.

Wenn die Zeit es mir erlaubt, werde ich hier ein paar Dinge zum Fortschritt schreiben. Oh, wer selbst bauen will: hier gibt’s die Beschreibung, wie man an eine initrd kommt.
